October Author Visit

By: Isabelle Rowland

For the Page Turner's October meeting Liz Alterman, an author of the thriller “He’ll Be Waiting,” visited the high school via zoom. This meeting was arranged by adviser Ms. Palmer, who was sent the books for free from the author to review. The club then purchased the book for members. This book, which is a thriller, was chosen as a group novel due to it being around Halloween. The main character 17-year old Tess Porter goes to pick up her boyfriend's college roommate at the airport, but ends up waking up at the hospital with several injuries and no idea of what happened, she then goes through her mind trying to figure out the truth as to what happened.

Students then had a chance to ask questions about the book, her career, and the process of getting a book published. Book club member Alexis Mitchell said, “ I think it’s valuable because we get to talk and get firsthand experience about the process. It can help inspire people who want to write when they’re older.” Alterman talked about the process of writing, how to get started, and how to publish it. She said ”Moments of magic or grace are what keep me writing.”

Book club will continue to have meetings monthly. Club members are now reading a book of their choice and are planning a holiday book exchange.
