By: Landon Shoup

The swim team started off their season strong on December 4th with wins from both the boys and girls teams. The girls beat the Ligonier Valley Rams 98-57 and the boys won 61-48. There were some new records set during this meet. Trevor Cameron set the 100-fly record with a time of 1:13.02, Brady Frazer in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.73 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.02, and Dan Jones in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:08.67. The girls, while dominating in most of their events, fell short of breaking any of their previous records. Some of the swimmers also qualified for the District 6 Championship meet. Those swimmers were Morgan Nagy, Grace Frazer, Brady Frazer, Ava King, and Trevor Cameron.

The Wildcats then traveled to Somerset Area on December 8 to take on the Golden Eagles. The girls lost 97-71 and the boys, having only 4 swimmers, lost to a much larger Somerset team 99-50. Despite that loss, the boys broke 8 records! Trevor Cameron broke the records for the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 100 butterfly, Dan Jones broke the 100 freestyle record, Landon Shoup broke the 200 freestyle record, and Brady Frazer broke the 200 IM record. Those boys then combined to break the 200 medley relay record and the 200 freestyle record.

The following Monday, December 11, the Wildcats traveled to UPJ for a tri-meet against Westmont Hilltop and Westmont. The girls defeated both teams and the boys defeated Westmont 62-61. Once again there were numerous time drops and personal bests from both the girls and the boys. Two days later on Wednesday, December 13 the Wildcats hosted Altoona. The girls dominated, winning 9/11 events and winning the meet 100-58. The boys on the flip side, got dominated losing 88-33. Despite the crushing loss, the boys had a few small victories. Landon Shoup qualified for districts for the 500 freestyle and Oshen Maratita dropped an impressive 34 seconds off his 200 freestyle.

The Wildcats will travel to Tyrone next Wednesday, December 20 to take on the Golden Eagles. Great job so far Wildcats. Keep up the great work.
