🐚The Little Mermaid Preview🧜‍♀️

By: Riley Hartnett

“The Little Mermaid,” a story every child has heard. And now every child, young and old can see their favorite bedtime story in action on the Homer-Center stage December 9 at 7pm, 10 at 2pm and 7pm, and 11 at 2pm. We all know the story of Ariel (Eden Gutierrez) who saves prince Eric (Isaac Marshall) and falls in love with him instantly, the way one today might fall in love instantly with chocolate. It's not destined to be, however, because the the prince lives on land so she falls into the hands of Ursula, the sea witch (Kitana Olson), who, I might add is banished by Ariel's father Triton (Anderson Lee), and has never had anything good said about her. But naive Ariel makes a deal with Ursula and trades her lovely voice for a pair of legs so that she can be with her prince Eric on the surface. Only catch is that she has but three days to get the prince to kiss and fall in love with her or else… well let's just say the little mermaid will not be anything after that but property of Ursula.

Luckily Eric remembers her voice, when searching for her and finally finds her wobbling on the beach with her new legs. Eric takes her to his castle (which I get for the plot line but is really a dumb idea, I mean come on dude you can't just let pretty girls in your house) and Ariel gets a bath and tidied up (que the musical number) and then Ariel, Eric, and Grimsby(Levi Loose) have dinner where Chef Louis (Isaac Ditter) serves Sebastian (Olliver Lee) as the main dish. Luckily, Sebastian gets out okay but Ariel and Eric aren't any closer to love yet.

The next day they spend on multiple activities before going out on a rowboat for a lovely little time. Scuttle (Lex Morgan) and Sebastian see this and get all of the fish (see list below) and such to try and coerce them into a kiss, but alas Ursula's Eels, Flotsam and Jetsam (Lily Freed+Ashli Mumau) rock the boat, literally, and stop that kiss but thankfully are too late to stop that spark of connection. The last final day is when Eric has his singing contest that all the princesses (see list below) have come to attend in hopes that they will become his bride but Ariel bursts in dancing, because it's a musical and she couldn't possibly have walked in nicely, and makes Eric realize that she is the one who saved him from drowning and that it's her he loves (finally, I mean the guys kinda oblivious). But oh no, Ursula comes in and takes her away, Triton tries to save her, Ariel gets her voice back, Ursula dies, Eric and Ariel get married and live on the surface, and they all live happily ever after THE END. That's a basic recap of the bedtime story now a musical that you all know and love.
