Homelessness Awareness 2022

By:Chevelle Kenney

On October 18th, the Homer-Center National Honors Society and Interract Club met to discuss Homelessness Awareness Week. The club had a guest speaker, Sarah Scroth, who is the Homelessness Liaison for the ARIN District building. Scroth brought awareness about who can be homeless, what homelessness looks like, and how groups like ours can help aid these people.

The clubs took action in many ways, consisting of making tie blankets, putting together boxes of goodies, and by collecting food at local grocery stores to donate to shelters.

"It allows [people in shelters] to see that the younger generation of people are willing to help and provide them with the things they need." states Kylie Myer, one of the students who collected food items at the Ideal Market in Homer City.

So far the NHS and Interact Club have finished a few blankets, and put together many care packages to help the homeless, and we can't wait to see what they will do next.
