Written By: Chevelle Kenney

On  November 10th, 2022, Homer-Center hosted their annual Veterans day assembly. The Assembly was hosted in the J. Byers auditorium, and honored veterans who attended the event.

Student speakers, Anna Cutshall, Alania Fabin, and Alexandra Schmidt ran the event, with speakers from the HC Heritage Conference Impromptu Speech team giving impactful speeches along side them.

Sophomore Riley Miscik gave a speech regarding how much impact this assembly has.  Riley includes "...if you’re in an active war zone, you don’t know what’s going to happen next. You have lost all stability in your life. These people have done this, in one way or another, just so we can have stability in our lives- In our children's lives. "

She then connects this feeling to her own life. "My brother, Jacob Kish, joined the army a year ago, and my family and I don’t see him very often anymore due to his military duties."

Junior Eden Gutierrez then discusses characteristics of veterans that we should include in our everyday life. She touches on selflessness, respect, and loyalty.

"Spreading love and kindness is the most simple way to show respect to those around you." Eden states.

Senior Justley Sharp spoke on why we owe our veterans gratitude.

"On Tuesday I was able Vote for the first time in my country's fair and free democratic election." Justley states, then going on to talk about how this, among other things are taken for granted, despite being given to us through the hard work of our veterans.

She then goes on to quote JFK, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

This quote inspired the audience of staff and students to thank our veterans through actions, along with words this Veterans Day.
