Homer Center’s New Superintendent Discusses His Excitement to Join the District

This November, Mr. Ralph Cecere will be officially brought on as the Homer-Center school district’s superintendent. Cecere is largely impressed by the current state of the district, and strives to be involved with as much as he can.

“I’m really excited.” Cecere states. “ As I said, there’s a lot of community support. The staff just seems phenomenal….I am impressed with what I've seen so far at Homer-Center.”

Cecere has been in the education field for nearly 30 years now. He originally had visions of playing in the MLB, but after multiple serious injuries, he was unable to play. He pursued a career in education. He taught Health and Physical Education for roughly ten years, and coached high school sports teams alongside this position. He then went back to school to become a principal, and later obtained his superintendent degree at Edinborough University.

“I enjoy seeing people become the best they can be,” he stated. When asked if he’s been through hardships during his career, he replied, “I’ve been in some homes that have been in some real challenges, and you wonder how a student makes it to school on a daily basis. And you’re happy when you see them at school because you know this is a safe place…you just think about those students constantly.”

Cecere talked about how one of the hardest parts of his career was losing a student. He was a part of numerous student assistance groups, much like our SAP program here at Homer, to help his students grow. Because of this, one of the easiest parts of his day is spending time with students. He admires how the student body here is heavily involved with the community. Cecere has spent a great deal of time observing Homer-Center’s classrooms and extracurriculars, and plans to continue his time learning about our school.
