Without dynamic solutions to humanity’s expansive footprint on the environment, all life on Earth hurdles towards a dangerous brink of extinction. Pharmacology represents a forward-thinking field in the trend of sustainability, with pharmacies around the world adapting their systems to reduce waste and reuse materials. On the first day of my mentorship, I noticed the glaring overuse of plastic vials, bottles, and storage containers in my pharmacy, and become immediately interested with the changing role of plastics in pharmacology. For my HMP project, I focused on how pharmacies are changing their processes to advance towards a greener future. Humanity is on a ticking time bomb, and the solutions being brought about by modern science show promise to save life on our planet.
