Over fifty years ago, the internet was created to distribute top secret information during the cold war. Today, nearly everyone has access to the internet and it is used in our everyday lives for simple things like forecasting the weather and sharing pictures. Anything and everything can be found online. In today’s society, we struggle with trusting the credibility of most of the information that we consume. When photography started being used in the media, a picture was enough to make people believe what they saw. It was said that photo evidence was accurate and trustworthy. Unfortunately, you cannot believe what you see on the internet in 2019. There are numerous kinds of technology to change the way a picture looks. As a photographer, even I can say that I use filters to make pictures more aesthetically pleasing. Sometimes art wins over natural perception. I hope that people can learn from my research and be able to use the internet to their full advantage to appreciate altered photographs for the purpose of art and be able to navigate false pictures as well.
