Mentors: Shannon Parris, Aquatics Manager at Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center
During my mentorship this year, I was able to shadow my manager and my place of occupation. Shannon, my mentor, is the aquatics manager at Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center in Gainesville, Georgia where I am a lifeguard and swim instructor. The aquatics manager overlooks all swim lessons, lifeguards, schedules, classes, and budgets for these events to take place. My mentorship allowed me the access to observe the daily tasks that a person in business administration would perform, and I learned more about the business world than I thought I would at the start of this school year. As a current employee at my mentorship, I learned and experienced the “behind-the-scenes” actions that our team makes to ensure that we are efficient and successful at our jobs. My capstone project highlights the main factors that are crucial for businesses to thrive, and these factors are derived from my experience at my mentorship. I am considering majoring in business management at college following my graduation this May. This opportunity was so unique and special to me, and I am thankful I was able to observe what my potential future might look like.
