Mentors: Kristin Sutton Amigos for Christ and Xrevival
From a young age, we are taught to help people. However, we are usually not taught how. Over this year, I spent my mentorship at Amigos for Christ, an organization that helps communities in Nicaragua, and my own youth ministry, Xrevival. I had the opportunity to learn a lot about how individual people and organizations can effectively enact change in communities, varying from a rural village in Nicaragua to Hall County, with Christian values. Through my research, I learned about many cases of failed organizations and ventures, and their downfalls. I also looked at the most influential organizations and noted what seemed to be the common denominator among them. At Amigos for Christ, I saw first-hand what worked best to create results, and I learned about what they have adapted and changed over time to improve. I tried various theories and ideas with Xrevival, implementing each one through trial and error. Through my research and experience, I have determined that strong leadership, goal-setting, and keeping faith at the center of everything is extremely important for Christian organizations seeking to help others. Recently, I have begun to implement these values all together in Xrevival, and the results have been incredible. As it continues on, I hope to keep using these ideas to create change in my community.
