Mentors: Emily Bergen and Dr.Chambers, Lance Animal Hospital
Animals and pets need us as their owners or caretakers to be their voice. Animals do some much for us such as giving their companionship and unconditional love so we need to be there for them just as they are always here for us. To be a voice for our pets we must first know how to understand what they are trying to tell us through their behaviour. The main goal of my research is to educate pet owners on types of body language and the meaning behind the movements of the animal. Understanding a animals posture is the key to knowing what the animal is trying to voice either they are feeling physical or mental pain. Knowing whether or not your animal is in pain can be a life or death situation for the pet since they might have a serious problem going on such as internal bleeding or a infection. My research informs the reader of many types of animal behaviors along with what the body language might indicate. Once the reader is educating on understanding their animal, I inform the reader as to what the next step is for caring for their animal. Interning within a animal hospital I have seen how important it is to understand what a animal is trying to tell you. The doctors are always feeling the animal and watching how the pet should react to see signs of pain and then also when the vet techs handle animals they read the animal in order to know whether or not the animal should be muzzled for the doctors safety. Overall I plan to use my research to further inform pet owners and to take the information I have learned to apply it to my future career within animal medicine to be the voice for animals.
