Mentors: Brendan Blake, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Back In The Game Physical Therapy
Many seniors in high school go on in life to realize they have no idea what they want to do, but luckily I have found my passion through Honors Mentorship. Before my mentorship I was passionate about healthcare, but didn’t know how I was going to pursue it. My mentorship has shown me that Physical Therapy is where I want to be in my life, and that I can help people and build relationships on a long term basis. The staff at Back in The Game have made me feel at home and made my mentorship some of the best months of my life, they are all super friendly, and I have built some relationships that I never would have before if it weren’t for this opportunity. My mentor is actually my physical therapist from when I was younger. My time in physical therapy as a kid influenced how I viewed it due to the impact in made in my life, and how I would love to make the same impact in people’s lives as my mentor did mine. My time in my mentorship has taught me so much new information that you can only learn in the field. I’ve learned so much about the relationships you can build while working in physical therapy. I have also learned loads about the tools used for healing in physical therapy and how they are used. I have seen the methods of dry needling, cupping, high intensity laser treatment, as well as spinal manipulation. I have learned the exercises that are affiliated with different time frames in healing on several different parts of the body. This time in the clinic has made me certain of my aspirations in the future and have shown me my calling in life.
