Random Acts of Kindness

This week's focus is based on Random Acts of Kindness. Random Acts of Kindness is celebrated every year in February. This year we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness on Wednesday February 17, 2021. We know everyone can use more kindness in their lives. How great is it that our random acts of kindess and good deeds can make someone else's entire day?

First we will begin with what you know. Please answer yes or no to the following questions.

  1. Do you know what kindness means? Yes No

  2. Have you heard the word empathy before? Yes No

  3. Can you think of a kind act that you have done before? Yes No

  4. Do you know what a "Full Bucket" means? Yes No

So what is being kind? Being kind means being doing something good to someone or being nice to someone. For our first activity I would like to create a list of ways to be kind. This can be something nice that you did to someone, treating someone the way they wanted to be treated, or even to opening the door to someone or saying something kind to someone. Here are some ideas...

Try to think of other ways you have been kind or shown your act of kindness to someone else. Share your ideas with your classmates or an adult.

For our next activity I want you Listen to the story "How full is your bucket?" and be ready to discuss the following questions.

What does a "Full Bucket" mean?

How can you let others know when our buckets are not full?

What can we do to fill others buckets?

What does it mean to put yourself in someone else's shoes?

Now that you know what being kind means and learn how to show your kind acts to others I want you to think about a time when someone was kind to you. How did that make you feel?

Share your story to your class or to an adult.

Let students know when we are kind to someone, it not only makes that person feel good, but it makes us feel good too. The more kind acts we do, the kinder our entire world becomes.

To end our lesson about kindness, I challenge ALL of you to complete a kindness challenge by doing some of these activities throughout the week.

Remember these challenges can be done over and over again. And remember to continue being kind to one another.
