Dear HKMS Families,
It is hard to believe, but the 2024-25 school year and our 6oth anniversary is over! 180 days, over 1,600 periods, and over 60,000 minutes of instruction have been completed. We fought through some tears, celebrated many accomplishments, and have been blown away by the growth and development we have witnessed in our students!
As we close a remarkable school year, Mrs. Mohr and I are filled with immense pride and gratitude for the incredible journey we have shared. This year has been truly exceptional, not only for the academic and extracurricular milestones we have achieved, but for the unwavering spirit of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the invaluable partnership of our families. No where was that more apparent then in our Mikey's Way fundraiser and 60th Anniversary Celebration this past March!
This year was marked by a renewed focus on nurturing the whole child. We are incredibly proud of our 8th graders' Personal Interest Projects, the dissection experiences in seventh, the school wide spelling bee and AMC math competitions. Our debate team, math club, school band, orchestra and choir have also reached new heights, showcasing their talent and teamwork. Our school Wizard of Oz Jr. play was a inspirational experience that helped define this successful year.
Beyond the accolades, this has been a year of profound personal growth. We have seen our students develop into more compassionate, resilient, and globally-aware young adults. They have supported one another, celebrated each other's successes, and navigated challenges with a maturity that is truly inspiring. The strong sense of community that defines HKMS has been the bedrock of these accomplishments.
Of course, this exceptional year would not have been possible without our extraordinary team of educators. Their commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment, their innovative teaching methods, and their tireless dedication to each student's success are the cornerstones of our school. Mrs. Mohr and I extend our deepest gratitude to every teacher and staff member for their unwavering professionalism and heart.
To our parents and guardians, thank you for your constant partnership. Your support from home, your participation in school events, and your open communication have been instrumental in our shared success. Your trust and collaboration are deeply valued.
Before we let you go for the summer, there are a few final reminders and "to dos" on your list:
Report Cards are now available. The link to PowerSchool is here. The directions on how to access the report cards are linked here.
Math placements have been determined for next year. If you did not hear from your child’s math teacher, that means they are staying “on track” (see math pathways linked here). If your child's math class pathway is changing, you have already heard from your child’s teacher.
Summer Reading, math, and our awesome "Let Grow Summer Experience" assignments are all in the letter linked here (also included in this newsletter, and on the home page of the HKMS website).
As we head into the summer break, I encourage our students to rest, recharge, and reflect on all they have accomplished. It is a well-deserved time for family, friends, and personal pursuits. We look forward to welcoming our returning students back in the fall (only 71 days from now!) and we extend our very best wishes to our departing eighth-graders as they embark on their high school journey. We are confident they will carry with them the lessons, friendships, kindness, determination, and citizenship from their time at HKMS.
Thank you once again for a truly exceptional school year.
Sincerely,
Steve Clapp, Ed.D. & Annie Mohr

THE FINAL WAVE!!!
Summer is the perfect time to let our kids spread their wings and try some independent challenges! Please read through the assignment in the link here. Student will be expected to share one of the "Capture the Growth" projects (or one of their own ideas) found on p.6.
This week grade 6 welcomed grade 5 students as they visited classrooms, took tours and asked lots of questions! Our grade six students fell perfectly into their roles as leaders and hosts!
The grade 8 Twilight Picnic was a wonderful culminating celebration of good friends and good times while in middle school! (and the food was great too!)
The Musical Extravaganza of Awesomeness!
All grades...All music groups...One concert!
