Dear HKMS Families,
Summer salutations to everyone in the HKMS family! A hearty welcome to all of our new families, including our new sixth graders and families who are new to town! For all those who are new to HKMS, Mrs. Mohr and I publish this newsletter every week and will feature "peeks" into the classrooms, "happenings" around campus, and upcoming events. It is our goal to only send you updates, news, etc. just once per week using this newsletter. Ideally, this is the only notice you'll get from us about everything from schedules and report card grades, to field trips and other updates. It is a "one stop" regular communication. I strongly encourage you to review each one as we are trying not to overburden your inbox with messages.
This "mid-summer" newsletter is intended to update our entire learning community on some recent school improvements, share news, and provide reminders about some upcoming events.

Student schedules for the 2023-2024 schedule year will be available to view on PowerSchool the week of August 21st. An email communication will be sent when they are posted that will include reminder information about how to log into your PowerSchool account.
Avoid the summer slide and make sure that your child is spending time tackling their summer math and reading assignments. Here is a link to that information and it can also be found on our website.
Informal Open Houses For Grade 6
We have three dates scheduled in August for informal open house drop-ins. Sixth-grade students and their parents can stop by anytime during the open house windows listed below to check out the classrooms and practice opening a locker.
August 3rd: 11am-12pm
August 10th: 9am-10am
August 17th: 11am-12pm
Save the Date: August 23rd
The PTO will host a student-led touring experience for all incoming 6th grade students on August 23rd.
Incoming 6th grade students will bring a print out of their schedule and our 7th and 8th grade tour guides will provide personal tours based on their unique schedule.
Parents can sign their child up for a tour using a signup genius link that will be sent out in a few weeks.
This is not a “drop off” event as the tour only takes a few minutes. Parents are invited to mingle and chat with Dr. Clapp and Mrs. Mohr at a refreshments tent located near the front entrance of the school while they wait for their child.
We will be hosting an orientation for all “new to Easton” students who have moved-in over the summer. The orientation will be on August 23rd. Stay tuned for more details.
Donning the ceiling and walls of the cafeteria are the 42 flags that represent the various cultures, countries, and ethnicities of the entire HKMS community for 2022-23! We want to be sure we have your family represented in the flags for the 2023-24 school year. Please take 15 seconds to fill out the questionnaire here so we can update our flags to include your family.
Classrooms are being polished and set up for the start of school! Bravo to our custodians for helping to make us shine!
Our new pollinator and pizza (yes, pizza!) garden is bursting! Consider joining the garden club with Mr. Crawford this fall and help us harvest our bonanza!
