A Multitude of Morrison - Morrisoncon and Dundee Comics Day

Post date: Sep 28, 2012 11:32:11 PM

Today is the first day of the much-hyped Morrisoncon, a cultural summit that will see Grant Morrison and pals from stage and page get down and dirty with 1,000 lucky punters in the key location from James Bond magnum opus Diamonds Are Forever, Las Vegas. Just like that greatest of all Bonds, expect pneumatic Amazon assassins, would-be world conquerors in drag, and a final apocalyptic confrontation between all of the guests on an offshore oil platform. Only kidding. Here's the real itinerary. Expect to see plenty of coverage from Newsarama and the like of every utterance (or virtually no coverage at all as it transpres...). If any of the atendees would like to share their thoughts post-Con, please do get in touch. I'd be only to happy to air them in public for you.

For anyone who balked at the hefty pricetag of Morrisoncon or lives thousands upon thousands of miles away from Sin City, news reaches Transmission Towers of an eminently affordable and equally exciting alternative, this year's annual Comics Day in fabulous Dundee. The event features Grant himself alongside comic book compadres Cameron Stewart, Frazer Irving, Rian Hughes and Frank Quitely. Unfortunately Jill Thompson, who's still listed on the schedule for the day at the moment, won't be attending, and there won't be any of Morrisoncon's enviable plethora of exclusive booty, but tickets cost a very reasonable £15, and a hotel room in Dundee - a long way from Las Vegas in pretty much every respect - shouldn't break the bank. See you all there for a decidedly more British-y* take on this whole Grant Morrison convention business.

And its not just fun and excitement on the personal appearance front either; Grant's long overdue re-entry into the the world of creator-owned books outside of the big two publishers began in earnest this week with the publication of Happy! #1 from Image. Slightly disappointing that the titular blue cartoon horse's long-teased reveal was spoiled by Mike Allred's (excellent) variant cover staring out from every comic book website and the shelves themselves, but hey ho. Life goes on. To coincide with the launch there was a mini-flurry of interviews, one from Laura Sneddon for the New Statesman - with more to come from Laura in next month's Sci-Fi Now magazine - and others alongside Happy! collaborator Darick Robertson at Comics Alliance and Entertainment Weekly.

Batman Incorporated #0 annotations will be along shortly, along with a massive and long overdue Universe B update, more Action Comics catch-up and hopefully even a guest post or two! Exciting times!
