        Clue the Musical 2023🔎

HHIHS will be performing Clue the Musical for their play this fall semester. Director Guinn who is also the theater elective teacher here at HHIHS said  “this year she let the students create slideshows so they could have a say in the play we did this year”.

Not only is Kimberly Guinn the director of the plays here but she truly does it all: sets, costumes, directing, building, and designing are just some key components she contributes to. Chris Sykes is in charge of lights and sound and spends all of his time in the SCC to make sure it's perfect.

Students also are a big part of the musicals and plays. They dedicate their time along with Guinn on weekends for hours preparing for the big night. There is also a team of students working backstage called theater tech, who help Chris and Guinn do their jobs throughout the show because there is only one of each of these amazing people.

Guinn explained that “the best part of this experience is seeing the students gain confidence after stepping out onto the stage in front of the audience. After all of their hard work it brings me joy and so much happiness”.

HHIHS is so excited for this musical and many more plays and musicals to come. Which are presented by our outstanding Seahawk Stage Company.

Inside Scope in Band

By Ryan Kurz

Hilton Head Seahawks band has many moving parts, like drums or percussion, trumpet, trombone, french horn, clarent, and tuba. Band is a special part of the school and they go out of their way to play at football games. Although there are only a few students that are playing in a band this year, they are still very good. Hernan Boyer gives his opinion and views on band

The band this year is extremely small this year but Hernan says “this band is small, that means a more personal touch on teaching so everyone in it is really good at what they do.”

There are many instruments to play but Hernan likes percussion more specifically his favorite instrument is “the drums because I like how much different they are from other instruments” says Hernan. He also said his second favorite instrument is “piano”.

“The best thing about the band is making friends and getting free tickets to football games to play at,” says Hernan. Band is a really good thing to join if you have free time after school and sometimes they do small concerts. It also looks good on a college transcript. In this case, Hernan likes to do it because he has other friends doing it and likes playing the drums.

Hernan said, “I would love to hear not more drums but actually more trumpet when doing our songs.” He said this because “I like the sound of the trumpet and it is one of the loudest and most outspoken instruments, so it’s one of my favorites to listen to but not to play.”

There are many important factors to a band, the teacher, the instruments, and the students. One of the instruments Hernan likes is, “The trumpet because it speaks a certain language the drums and other instruments cannot, but the trombone is also important because it gives the high pitch and low.”

There are many songs that incorporate drums like Seven Nation Army or One, but Hernan's favorite one to play is “Led Zeppelin, When The Levee Breaks.” This is a notable song because SingersRooms has it ranked one as best with drum solos. This is Hernan's favorite because it “has a lot of drumming unlike other songs where I'm just in the back, but in this I'm the main character.”

. Hernan likes to play at football games because, “it lets me showcase my skill to people and show off a little.”

There are many reasons to do classes. Hernan decided to join band class, he says he did it because “I could fill up free time and make new friends.” There are also other reasons to join like a good college resume, useful skills to have down the road, and might be helpful in life.

There are so many instruments in the band and some people don't really know about things like french horn, flute, or oboe. Hernan said “I think that the French Horn is really under-appreciated because it’s hard to play so not many people play it so it is often left out but also makes really good sounds for songs.”

There are many places where these bands play. Like for instance in middle school the band went to the School Board to play some music. Hernan say’s “we play mostly at high school football games because the band is so small it’s hard to go to competitions.
