Varsity Basketball/Riley McCracken  By: Julia and Holly

Riley McCracken is a student at Hilton Head High School and plays for the school's varsity basketball team. Riley is new to the team this year but started playing basketball when he was 6 years old. He is really enjoying the season so far and thinks that the team will work well together. Some things that the team does to prepare is run plays in practice, study how the other team plays and stretch to avoid injuries. Riley says that one of the strategies he uses on his own to prepare for games is figuring out who he will be defending and watch how they play individually. Riley also played football for the high school team and he says that he really enjoys basketball because it takes up a lot less free time and time to rest than football did.  Riley hopes that the team can beat some competitive teams in the future. The team had a close game against Aiken and thinks that James Island will be a close game as well. Riley wants to thank his coaches for helping him improve throughout the season. Coach Brown encouraged Riley to join the team this year.

Boys volleyball with Jack Boatwright

By: Holly Heiens

Jack Boatwright is a Sophomore on the boys volleyball team. The boys volleyball team is a new sport just introduced this year. Jack decided to join the volleyball team this year because his friends were talking about all joining, and he thought that it could be something new and exciting to try. The coaches for the team are Coach Murphy and Coach T. Jack did not have any previous experience with volleyball, but figured that it could be a fun sport to get into. The team prepares for games by practicing hard and talking about what went good and bad during their previous games. This helps the team focus in on what needs to be done to improve and be the best they can be. Jack’s favorite part about volleyball is getting to practice and play with his friends as well as traveling to the away games. Jack has had a lot of fun this season and is excited to see what is in store for the boys volleyball program at Hilton Head High School in the future. The team plans to go to playoffs in future seasons.
