By: Hailey Poplin
Alex was leading the boys tennis team with the lead win of 6-4. Alex defeated the number one opponent Max on the Lucy Beckham team that shook the Lucy Beckham team down. A slice is a ball that you hit at an angle with a backwards spin. An ace is a serve you hit without the opponent touching the ball. It was a rough and bumpy road to success but with Alex’s slices, and his 3 aces that started the team with a lead, the rest of the team was carried from the success of Alex’s leading win. A UTR is a ranking they use in tennis to place where you are against all and any tennis player in your age group. The number 2 player on the team Brent had a hard match from the start. With his opponent being a higher UTR than him, based on the ranking of his opponent he was already higher than Brent in his ranking so it was made out that he was going to lose from the start. With the hard work that Brent put in he had an amazing win in the end. There were many rally’s and long deuce points, but Brent was smarter than to let his opponent get the best of when Brent was up 3-2. It was 3-3, then Brent went up with a 4-3 lead with close rally’s from his opponent. A down the line shot is down the sideline. Ending the point with a forehand winner down the line. Which had gained the momentum for Brent to take the 6-4 win. With the success of both 1 and 2 on the team the two lead the team to success for the team with the outcome of 5-1, with only one loss.

By: Caleb Spangler and Landon Brockway
The Seahawks baseball team faced off Goose Creek on Monday night and after a long game, Goose Creek won the game 5-3. Jacob Hadley said, “ It’s a tough loss you know, we fought hard and it would have been great to pick up this win”. Also talked to Jack Boatwright who said, “I felt like we put ourselves in a great position to win this game, but unfortunately we couldn’t come out on top, just going to have to work harder.” The Seahawks landed only two hits through 7 innings, this was a major problem and has been like that all season. Goose Creek hit a triple late in the 6th that put them up 4-3 then finished the game in the final inning going up 5-3. The Varsity Seahawk baseball team plans on focusing on hitting, as that could be the difference between a state title, and a first-round exit.
