Senior Night (Football)

By: Elizabeth Monzon

Senior year is here again and sadly we are losing 12 football players this year that have been with us since their freshman year. The Seahawk Times interviewed two seniors, two juniors, and Coach Payne. We wanted to know how everyone is feeling for their senior friends and how they are going to say goodbye.

Coach Payne is the head coach at HHI and every year must be hard for him because he is always losing his seniors. This year he will be losing 12 of them and all of them have created a bond that is unbreakable, either with coaches or teammates. Coach Payne said “This year has been a great year and I had incredible seniors. They play hard and practice hard, and the transition won't be easy but they are all born leaders.”

We interviewed one of the captains on the football team, he has had 12 offers for college and he has committed to Wake Forest. Chris Marable has played all his life with gator football, middle school, high school, and now soon to be college football. He said “I am sad that it's coming to an end but I’m excited to start a new journey at Wake Forest.” He has many good memories playing at HHI that he will never forget. He also added “If I could I would start over but life must go on and it's time to start something new.”

Riley McCracken moved down to HHI his sophomore year of highschool and he made bonds very quickly. He said “I see my teammates as a family and my coaches as people that push me every step of the way.” After high school he plans to play football, he has a couple colleges in mind but he said “I would like to go to Ohio or somewhere in HHI for college.”

Owen Bayes or O_SHOW5 is a junior this year but he is sad to see his buddies leaving. Now that they are leaving he is expecting for his teammates to work harder and to keep the tradition alive, which is always keeping their bonds tight and always knowing that you are leaving a strong team behind.

Shai Thompson said “I am going to miss my buddies because I've known them since middle school but I know they are moving on to better things and creating new bonds where they are.”
