Volleyball Wins Regions!
By: Hannah Dye, Martha Cordero, and Leah Jackson
On October 11th the girls volleyball team secured the win for Region Championships. They made it past Round 3 of playoffs and they will now be moving onto Lower states. Last year, Coach T led his team to a State championship victory. After hard work and determination, he hopes the team will be able to defend the State title. Here's what he had to say about his season so far and how he's preparing for the next couple of days in hopes to receive another ring.
Q: How is your season going so far?
It's going very well. We’ve played very competitively. We have improved a lot, and I am very happy with the way this season has gone.
Q: What are you doing to prepare for the playoffs?
Well, we are trying to focus on our serve receive, just being more consistent over all, making sure we are relaxed and not overly excited or nervous, and playing point for point.
Q: Who’s your biggest competitor?
I think that our biggest competitor will be Aiken, Lucy Beckham put up a good fight. I do think it will be difficult to play at Aiken with their big home crowd, but if we play our game I am confident we will have success on the court.
Q: How’s the team chemistry?
From what I can see, it looks pretty good. I dont think we have any issues right now. We had Mckenzie Ryan out for a couple of weeks, so we’re getting her back in the lineup, and we’re all getting accustomed to playing with each other again. I think that was missing a little bit, or it wasn’t up to its fullest potential, but now, after a couple of playoff games, we’re starting to get that back.
Q: What brings success to the program?
I think it's creating a winning culture. Players know when they come in they need to work hard, come to practice everyday, they have to be enthusiastic, willing to learn, willing to grow. You need to be willing to fail and get better from failing and accept it and move on.

The Hilton Head Island Seahawks girls basketball team recently held tryouts, and are excited for the season to start. Head coach, Coach R, provided insight to the upcoming season. He said his expectations for this season are, “to be very competitive, and, if we play the way we’re capable of playing, I can see us winning the region. My expectations are to make the playoffs, and give the community and school something to be proud of.” He thinks their biggest competitor will be Bluffton, because, “they’ve won the region the past 2, 3 years, and they have a solid core coming back.” In his opinion, our region is very tough, but Bluffton is the “team to beat ''. Wrestling
By: Angel V, M, and B
Some students like their club from day one, some students don’t like it from the first day. Some students may feel anxiety when they first start so if the other students are nice then they would like to stay. “I love it, the people there are really nice and always welcoming more people'' one student from the club named Cameron Grammer said this.
Some people start when they are in middle school or high school. Students can start any year. “I just started this year,” said a student in the wrestling club.
Some students can be the best/strongest in the club. Sometimes it's hard to tell if you just started. “I haven’t wrestled enough to choose but I think from who I wrestled, my friend Jimmy or shaun.” said Cameron Grammer
Some students want to do different things in the clubs they join. Some students might just want to have fun or make more friends. “...I wanted to lose weight so it was a perfect Opportunity.” Gameron said.
Some people like the sport while some people dislike the sport.“The fact at first you feel really weak compared to everyone and how imitating the sport looks.” said a student in the wrestling club.
2021-2022 Seahawk Wrestling Season to Launch this weekend!
By: Jacob H and Carmine G
After coming off a year where the Seahawks wrestling squad outperformed their expectations, they look to go even further this time around in the 2021-22 season. With only a few seniors from last year leaving, and lots of up and coming freshman talent, the Seahawks have even higher hopes for this season. We were able to interview one of the players about their upcoming season.
“We have more potential than ever this season, and I believe this is the most talent we have had in recent years. We have state championship hopes this season.” The Seahawks look to achieve even higher goals this year after just falling short of the state championship last season.
When asked about how their team chemistry is, the player answered, “Our team chemistry is on point this year. We all push each other to do better and be a winning team.” Team chemistry is often a very key component of a successful sports team, and it seems that this team has got it.
We then asked about the season’s length and how they prepare to stay in top shape throughout the entire season. “The season lasts about 4 months including playoffs, with about 20 total matches. It can be difficult to keep up with that for 4 months, so it is important that us players eat healthy, consistently go to practice and train, and stay committed throughout all 4 months.” Wrestling is one of the toughest sports and you have to be in top shape year round to be successful. The Seahawks have confidence that they can do it.
The Seahawks begin their campaign this Saturday morning at Effingham at 9:00 A.M with their first match of the season. We wish them luck this weekend looking for a 1-0 start.
