Head Prefects

As Head Prefects, leading your prefect team, we both have our aims and goals that we hope to achieve this school year. We are both united in wanting to increase the diversity of our student voice. Although we do get some fantastic feedback on lessons, homework and general day to day life, this feedback comes from prefects. Our aim is to get more students included within this feedback, and we are planning on doing this by making it easier for students to share opinions and give suggested improvements. We can’t promise everything, but the act of feedback will ensure that we continue to develop our outstanding school. This will be collected using the feedback boxes you will find in each eating area – you can collect a slip from your prefect on conduct card duty and give us your feedback.

Another of our new goals, as your head prefects, is to give students a chance to become more comfortable in yourselves and gain the confidence to express your opinions and views. Students are given opportunities to take leadership within the classroom environment, as well as partaking in the Student Experience Passport, which provides students with lifelong memories, alongside key skills and lessons that can be used throughout your later life. We, as prefects, will actively encourage you to take part in such opportunities. As young adults, we are shaped by our experiences in the coming years and therefore it is important - now more than ever - that we welcome these opportunities - even if they might be outside of our comfort zones. With the instability of the current environment as a result of climate change, many of the skills provided through the experience passport will be invaluable to protect our natural world. Most of us forget that there's a greater world beyond the walls of Kingswood - a greater world where we will become our own independent people. Kingswood is a useful starting point where we can gain a headstart to this unseen world, so we should use all the opportunities that are offered to us to expand our cultural understanding, global awareness and personal skill set. I understand that some people struggle with finding themselves, so our main goal is to boost confidence in our students, ensuring that all students have the inner belief and ambition to fulfil their dreams and live a happy and successful life.

Academy Head Prefects 2023-2024

Annual Prefect Training Residential

Our annual prefect trip is a residential to develop their leadership skills and prefect character qualities. This year our focus was teamwork, communication and leading others and to support with this our character education coach Kevin Mincher attended the trip as well, and it took place at the outdoor adventure centre Kingswood Dearne Valley for two days and one night. The trip has a mixture of classroom sessions including focussing on communication, the language of a leader and the voice of a leader interwoven with physical challenges including climbing, high ropes, nightline and many more. The students worked on building their teamwork and working relationships as well as learning to lead with pride and integrity as student leaders - alongside have a great time!"
