Student Leadership

In line with our mission to develop students with ‘exceptional character’, we offer a range of leadership opportunities that all students are able to access. Students are able to engage with a particular aspect of responsibility within our school, and have the development and support in order to grow the skills needed to be effective leaders. Students in leadership positions are well-respected members of the school community and lead and inspire our student body.

All Students at Kingswood Academy are able to apply for leadership positions such as:

As a debate leader, these students show eloquence and professionalism when debating key controversial matters.

As a Duke of Edinburgh participant, students take part in a prestigious national award which develops the leadership skills of innovation and problem-solving.

As a farm leader you will learn and develop knowledge in animal welfare and animal care. You will also build upon your leadership skills as you teach and demonstrate to other pupils how to care for our animals.

As a House Ambassador you must demonstrate confidence, passion and the ability to encourage and motivate other students. House captains work with the house leaders to ensure that the house competitions are inclusive to all students and that the house assemblies are inspirational.

As a student taking the Sports Leaders qualification you must be dedicated to developing others and promoting healthy lifestyle. Sports Leaders work with the PE team to develop the communication and organisation skills required to run sporting events.

As a team captain of our sport teams, you are required to demonstrate the ability to motivate, challenge and develop other people. Team captains have a responsibility for leading training and strategising, with the PE staff, to ensure success in competitive games.

As a puzzled ambassador you will develop your organisation skills as it is your responsibility to organise and set out puzzled games. It will also give you the opportunity to lead upon student voice in suggesting games that will help improve pupil welfare.

As a prefect at Kingswood Academy you must demonstrate emotional intelligence, the ability to support and grow others, confidence and assurance. Our prefects are role model students who live and breathe the key drivers with an ingrained motivation to be successful.

As a world ambassador, you demonstrate creativity, curiosity and the ability to build relationships with others. World Ambassadors work to develop an awareness of other cultures and lifestyles around the world by partnering with schools from other countries and leading exciting events.

In addition to this, we ensure that all students lead within the context of the classroom. Our Votes for Schools programme enables every student to lead a debate in front of their Academic Mentor Class; our Character Education and Academic Mentor programme have project based modules whereby every student is able lead a team project. It is important to us that every student, regardless of their age or ability, has the opportunity to undertake a leadership role.
