Curriculum Intent

Students develop teamwork, confidence, resilience, and determination through rehearsal processes, culminating in opportunities to perform and be creative. Using baselining students’ progress through pathways and ensure everyone makes rapid progress. We aim to raise the ambitions of our students and instil a passion for Drama that allows them to thrive in further study and to leave with a love of Drama that stays with them for a lifetime.

Drama Whole School Curriculum Contribution 

All students have an inner-belief and ambition to fulfil their dreams and live a happy and successful life. 

This curriculum develops well-rounded, knowledgeable, and competent actors who are inspired to pursue the performing arts throughout their lives. Students are given high quality experiences that permit them to pursue a career in the performing arts industry and attend the most reputable universities and performing arts schools such as The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Liverpool Institution of Dramatic Arts and The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. The Drama department achieves this by instilling students with an inner belief that they can compete for careers and places at university against anyone else globally. 


All students leave our academy with first-rate qualifications: 

The curriculum provides all students with first-rate qualifications by ensuring they have an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the performing arts industry from practical and academic perspectives. The curriculum incorporates important aspects of the performing arts industry, such as exploring different dramatic styles, gaining knowledge of historic and modern practitioners’ work and participating in ambitious tasks that give the students a real taste of what it is like to take on multiple roles within the industry. The course will enable students to access further Drama courses, such as A level and graded examinations.  The drama course allows students to develop the personal grit, determination and resilience that will prepare them for what is a very competitive industry.

The Drama curriculum provides opportunities and experiences for students to develop exceptional character through a dramatic context. Students will develop teamwork, confidence, resilience, and determination, whilst giving students the opportunity to give each other feedback on their work. The curriculum aims to provide students with resilience and determination through rehearsal processes, culminating in final performances. Alongside this, the curriculum gives students opportunities to develop their leadership skills through group work and the organisation of events. 


All students leave our academy with high levels of cultural and global awareness:

The Drama curriculum provides students with opportunities to gain high levels of cultural and global awareness. This is done through programmes of study, which focuses on work and practitioners from a range of cultures around the world, on a broad range of different topics. The Drama curriculum also provides students with the opportunity to study a range of historical practitioners and styles, whilst also giving students an awareness of current affairs in the world of Drama and the Performing Arts.  


All students leave with an array of positive memories that last for a lifetime:

The Drama curriculum provides students with a plethora of positive memories that last a lifetime. Students work towards performances to various audiences throughout the school year, whilst also having opportunities to use their Drama work in prestigious academy events such as the Christmas talent show and the Academy Awards, which takes place at prestigious venues across the city, including the city hall and the Bonus Arena. Students also can enter national competitions held in London, which show cases their work. Alongside this, Students can watch live performances delivered by professional companies at local theatre venues.
