Kingswood Sports Academy

The Kingswood Sports Academy’s mission is to become a leading school for sport in the Hull and East Riding area. This has been launched with the vision to inspire our already talented students to develop themselves through training in sport while instilling pride into students. We want our Sports Academy students to succeed whilst working in a team and therefore provide students with opportunities to engage in sport through fixtures and trips.

The beginning of the year began with a trials week which was a fantastic success with an outstanding number of students interested in representing one of the Kingswood Sports Academy teams, making it very difficult for our coaches to pick their team. This year, we are delighted to have increased our teams and we currently have: a mixed Cheerleading team, Girls Netball, Girls Rugby, Boys Rugby, Girls Football, Boys Football, Boccia, New Age Kurling, Mixed Basketball, Mixed Badminton, Mixed Dodgeball, Mixed Cross Country, Mixed Athletics, Mixed Dance, Girls Rounders and Boys Softball.

Presentation Evening

We are passionate about building the Sports Academy as an integral part of Kingswood Academy and hope that each student values each and every experience and opportunity that comes their way. As such, at the start of the academic year, students were invited to a presentation evening, of which representatives from Hull KR and YPD attended, to present the Sports Academy badges to students and  announce the captains for each team.

Team Training and Competitions

Each team trains on a specific night and has training tailored to develop their already expert skills and communication, ensuring that they have the skills to work together as an outstanding team. We currently have over 300 students training for these elite teams. However, being a member of the Sports Academy is much more than just playing sport. In order to truly develop their sporting ability, we offer ample opportunity for students to not only play against each other, but to be part of a range of local and national competitions.

Here are some of our success stories that we would like to celebrate this academic year:

Sponsorship

Within our Sports Academy, we are eager to form connections with the Hull community. We have been fortunate enough to receive sponsorship from Right Car UK who have kindly donated a brand new Football and Rugby Sports Academy kit.

Hull KR Partnership

At Kingswood we have a passion for giving students the best possible opportunity in their chosen sport. Therefore, we have developed an exciting partnership with Hull KR, who are sharing their expertise through extended coaching sessions with our Rugby teams. We are truly excited about this partnership and have already seen such a big impact already, with several teams getting to the Yorkshire Cup semi-finals and we look forward to seeing the further impact that it has on our students.

Youth Player Development Partnership

Kingswood have also developed an exciting partnership with Youth Player Development, a Yorkshire based football company, whose passion is to “embed the belief that ‘every moment counts’ to inspire and motivate each individual to achieve their full potential in their learning journey”. We are extremely excited to see the high quality Football coaching that is now taking place with each of the teams on a weekly basis.

YPD coach Mr I Heeley says, “Youth Player Development are extremely thrilled at the new partnership formed with Kingswood Academy, which will see us work closely with the Boys and Girls Football Academy teams across each year group. Our YPD team of coaches have already begun delivering training across all of the teams. We will look to enhance the current program that is on offer at the Academy, giving the pupils a stronger platform to excel within their football pathway. We strongly believe in making 'every moment count' and look forward to seeing the partnership and program grow".

Trips and Tours 2022-2023

As part of the Sports Academy we not only want students to compete themselves, but also have the opportunities to see athletes compete to a high standard in a range of different sports.

Manchester City- Football Trip 2023

Not only did our Boys and Girls Football Academy pupils see a live Champions League fixture during our recent Manchester trip, but witnessed a once in a lifetime game of a 7 - 0 thrashing in the Round of 16 Champions League tie. It was a terrific two days for all as over 40 students from the Sports academy attended this unforgettable trip. First up was a visit to Old Trafford for an official stadium tour. From visiting the pitch side, to the players tunnel, along with getting to know their rich heritage of success as a club through the years, students were able to enjoy the full backstage tour. Later that day, students witnessed a complete Football masterclass from Manchester City at the evening's Champions League tie. On our second day, before departing, we visited the world's biggest and best Football museum, The National Football Museum, and had the opportunity to explore the history of the game and its evolution. We are already looking forward to our next one!

Cheerleading Trip 2023

Our Cheerleading team took a trip to David Ross Sports Centre in Nottingham on Saturday 8th July 2023 to watch national teams of their own age and category compete for Champion Status. The students enjoyed watching the teams perform and were motivated to progress further in their own skills and show this as part of the Sports Academy.  Our students used this inspiration to amaze the crowd at their own performance a few weeks later.

Dance Trip 2023

Hull’s Gotta Dance competition took place at Middleton Hall in Hull on Wednesday 28th June 2023. It was incredible - both to watch and participate in. Students loved seeing other schools and dance teams performing a variety of dance styles and we were even fortunate enough to see some amazing singers. When it was time for our team to take to the stage, our students wowed the crowd! For some of our students this was their first experience on stage and this was an amazing opportunity to develop their confidence and skills.

Rugby - Hull KR Trip 2023

The Girls Rugby Team had a fantastic training and match opportunity with Hull KR Women's Head Coach Ben Parker on Friday 23rd June 2023. Students had the experience of training like Hull KR players at the training ground, being allowed to walk on the pitch and then experience a live sports match, where Hull KR beat Wakefield Trinity 28-12. An amazing experience for all students, with some never seeing a live sporting event at all or ever visiting a stadium.

Trips and Tours 2023-2024

Manchester City - Football Trip 2024

A selection of the Sports Academy Football teams have an exciting opportunity to go watch a live premier league game at the Etihad Stadium to see Manchester City play against Luton Town FC this year on Saturday 13th April 2024. Staff and students alike are very excited for this and it will be a great experience for everyone involved. Students will be travelling to the Etihad Stadium in Manchester and the atmosphere is going to be amazing and we can’t wait. Roll on April 2024!

Netball Trip 2024

On the 15th June 2024, the Netball academy will have the opportunity to go and watch a Netball Superleague game at the University of Hull! This is one of the highlights of the netball season with Leeds Rhinos splitting their home matches across the region so that their home fans can see the team close to them. The match is one of the most highly anticipated matches with the Reigning Netball Superleague Champions: Manchester Thunder coming to the Allam Centre to play against the Rhinos. The atmosphere is going to be amazing and we can’t wait. Roll on June 2024!

Dance Trip 2024

Our Year 10 BTEC Dance students have been given a fantastic FREE opportunity to go watch the Edward Scissor Hand production at Hull New Theatre on Wednesday 24th April 2024, a performance not only that will help our students on their KS4 BTEC Dance course, but also an opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime.
