Enrichment

Vision

Through our Enrichment Programme, students have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive range of enrichment activities that enhance student physical, intellectual, emotional and social development through competition, play and enjoyment. We support students to build their resilience, confidence and independence; enabling them to develop and discover their interests and talents for future success in their next steps.

At Kingswood Academy we employ a wide range of targeted interventions to support students with various needs. However, we identified a need to provide a universal offer of support, taking a pre-emptive and pro-active approach to student wellbeing. We have an enrichment timetable filled with activities to cater for every students’ interests.

Currently there are over 30 different extra-curricular students can participate in before school, lunchtime and after school.  Enrichment is provided from every department in the school ensuring there is something for everyone.

In the Hornby area, students can develop the skills needed to create a large-scale model town, such as designing layouts, creating scenery using a variety of materials.  Students also gain soft skills such as problem solving, teamwork and collaboration. Our Leadership program allows experienced students to oversee the overall laying and design of the track and develop their communication skills through teaching other students how to do skills such as flocking and painting. hese sessions are open to students every lunchtime, and after school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

These sessions are 3-4pm and offer students an introduction into baking where students can develop skills such as measuring, time organisation, and multitasking.

Enrichment Timetable

At Kingswood, our exciting enrichment offer takes place before school during breaktime, lunchtimes and after-school to allow every student to access these opportunities. Students carry an enrichment card which is stamped for each session they attend. When students achieve 10 stamps they are awarded two stickers in line with the academy's awards policy.

On the 3rd floor we now have two new exciting areas for students. The first area is our AirFix and Hornby club, where students have the opportunity to build models and paint them using acrylic, and the second area is our Lego club, where students are able to build large scale models such as the Titanic and the Concord. Both of these areas offer students the opportunity to become a leader and develop new skills and qualities such as communication, respect and competition.

Here at Kingwood we offer a diverse range of clubs in which student voice is welcomed and each half term we are adding more activities. Some opportunities available to students include our fantastic Kingswood allotment club, students are learning about growing different plants and vegetables in our on site greenhouse. Chess club is also very popular , the maths department has created a competitive club in which students compete against other schools. Other examples of opportunities include our school newspaper and latin club which students now lead and grow skills outside of the classroom in a real life context.

At Kingswood Academy we employ a wide range of targeted interventions to support students with various needs. However, we identified a need to provide a universal offer of support, taking a pre-emptive and pro-active approach to student wellbeing. We have an enrichment timetable filled with activities to cater for every students’ interests.

Students who participate in the highest number of enrichment sessions per term are rewarded with a trip, examples of this include bowling, high rope climbing, mini golf and an arcade.
