COLLEGE CREDIT: 3 DMACC Credits - APP 255
This is an introductory course emphasizing all aspects of the clothing industry from production to consumption. It is intended for the student with little or no sewing experience. This course includes the construction of 2 or more simple garments and/or projects. We also discuss elements of design, color, and garment styles, selecting appropriate fabrics for a line, identifying group and item lines. In the sewing component: application of basic construction techniques, terminology and embellishing including fabric purchasing and care. Understanding basic machine use and maintenance of sewing machines and sergers.
*For this course students will be provided with “base” supplies for the sewing projects. Students then can purchase their finished product. However, some students prefer to choose and purchase their own fabrics that can average up to $50.00 depending on student chosen fabrics and projects.
