GRADE: 11, 12 | SCORE: Non-Weighted | PHS CREDIT: 1 | SEMESTER | ELECTIVE - FINANCIAL LITERACY

The overall theme for this course will be personal financial management. It is offered only to juniors and seniors for the purpose of providing the students with the opportunity to learn more about the tools necessary to be successful in financial management. The course will place emphasis on the areas of

    1. Banking

    2. Personal income tax planning and preparation

    3. Credit, including spreadsheet work with mortgages and auto loans, a credit card simulation, and a presentation on an assigned area of credit

    4. The various types of insurance that will be needed by a young adult

    5. Budgeting

    6. Financial planning, including a stock market simulation and a look at investment instruments

The completion of this course will provide the student with a reasonable understanding of the personal finance skills necessary to best utilize their resources after high school.
