Day 1-Where do I start?

When it comes to writing we need to think about a 5 step process. The video shows a great map for how to lay out a story

  1. How the world was.

  2. And then one day

  3. Raise the stakes

  4. The moment of change

  5. The world as it is now.

This project is going to require some reading. In fact, a lot of reading. And some writing. AND REVISING!

Start with some basic questions that you might want to know about your character. Remember, for many of you your character isn't a real person, so you have the opportunity to decide the answers for these questions. BUT, you will need to read multiple sources to get a general IMPRESSION of how your character might answer these questions.

Where were they from? What was their job? What kinds of foods did they eat? Did they have families?

You might use this SITE to help you start your research. It is the U.S. National Holocaust Museum's website. (Yes, the one we go to in Washington D.C.) There are links that you can go to with unbelievably good videos, journals, and other primary sources for yourself. Explore the site

REMEMBER, YOU CAN NOT USE JUST ONE SOURCE TO DETERMINE WHAT YOU CHARACTER MAY HAVE BEEN LIKE, WHAT THEY EXPERIENCED, OR HOW THEY FELT!
