6. Changing Ways, Changing Rights

Today's activities will focus on the groups of people that had their identities determined by others. We will take a look at the women's movement to change the laws to chiefly, allow them to vote. Though that basic civil right is the main victory they had, there are many other rights that the women of the 1920's were able to gain, and their legacy has lasted to the present day.

We will also look at how the black community changed during a time known as the Harlem Renaissance. How their music, and the way they viewed themselves in the world changed.

Today's activities will center around two main activities. You may do them in either order, but you must complete them, and you must follow directions completely.

1. Below, there is a PDF regarding the suffrage movement. Open both the suffrageWS pdf (this is your answer sheet) and the womens suffragist PDF (this is the content). There are four bios of different women that had great effects on the world as we know it. Read through the bios and fill out the chart on the suffragews PDF.

***Something to note, Carrie Chapman Catt was raised in Charles City, Iowa...just down the road. There is no doubt in my mind that she spent some amount of time (though probably not a lot) in New Hampton.

2. Around the room you will find photos that have Layar AR content in them. Go around the room and do the AR activities and fill out the sheet uploaded to this website. You will need to open the PDF marked 1 and answer the questions as you complete the Layar AR activity.
