Look at this picture to get a better understanding of how much food it takes to feed an army.

Driving Question:  What kinds of food do Civil War soldiers eat and how do they cook it?

Most of you have already heard about hardtack, which is "bread", or more, a cracker that the soldiers ate.  However, what is it?  How did the soldiers make this stuff?  Did they think it was good?  Did they eat anything else? What about cooking?  All of these are good questions to ask and answer.  Today, your task is to figure out what soldiers ate and how they did it.  This includes:

What specific foods did they eat?

Did the north and south eat the same stuff? Why or why not?

How much food were they given to eat each day?

If they were marching all of the time ho in the word did they cook?

Did the food cause any problem?

Answer any questions that you come up with as well.

After you have learned enough about what the soldiers ate and how it was prepared, etc. your job is to create a "How to" video for "new recruits".

You must cite any sources that you use and you should use at least two primary sources.
