Social Norms

1. Think of a situation where you felt like you were out of place, or uncomfortable while everyone else seemed to conduct their business as "normal". Think about why it was an awkward feeling. Were they all breaking social norms or were you breaking social norms? Were you breaking them intentionally, or was the norm you understood different from what the group you around different from your understanding of "normal"?

2. Write this situation down on one of the notecards provided. On the back write down why you think you felt out of place.

3. Use your iPad to look up a definitely of "social norm". Once you have the definition, think of two examples of "social norms" that you have seen in the middle school. Write them down on the second notecard.

4. On the back of the second notecard, write down why you think these norms have come to be in the middle school.

5. Once everyone has completed this we will discuss these as a class.

By class time tomorrow you need to answer these questions and email them to me.
