Veterans Day

Military Uniforms have changed many times through the years. What was once the battle uniform for a U.S. Army soldier, has evolved into the dress uniform, and so one and such. In this activity you are going to take a look at the different uniforms that each branch wears, so when you see them in public you can recognize what branch of the military they are serving.

Modern day Battle Dress Uniform (BDU).

Modern day, U.S. Army class A dress uniform. Compared the the Union uniform during the Civil War (shown below), you can see that the old battle uniform has kind of transformed into the dress uniform of today's military. There are different versions of the uniform. Each one represents either a male/female version of the uniform, officers from enlisted, and specials units that wear different head ware. Notice the blue pants with a yellow stripe, and the navy blue, or sometimes green coat.

This is the U.S. Army's class B uniform, which would be worn by someone that works in an office, or is attending a meeting with other Army personnel.

This is the class A marine uniform. Notice the white hat, white belt, and red trim on the coat. If they were to stand sideways you would also see a red stripe on their blue pants, which is different from the yellow of the Army.

This is the Marine's class B uniform, worn when a class A is not appropriate. Notice the tan shirt and tan belt, along with the same blue pants with red trim. They still wear their white hat.

This is the Navy's class A officer's uniform. All white, with the branch medals and awards on the chest.

This is the Navy's enlisted personnel's uniform. They wear the navy blue (or sometimes all white) uniform with the bonnet and white hat. The stripes on their arms are indicators of their rank.

This is the Air Force's class A uniform. They wear a blue suit, with white dress shirt and blue tie. Their head covering is a service cap, or flight cap. The service cap looks similar to the hat that a police officer would wear. The service cap is foldable and takes up less space in a cramped air plane cock pit.

This is the class B uniform of the Air Force. Notice there is no jacket or tie. Often there will be an air force patch on the sleeve.

This is the Coast Guard's uniform. It is similar to the Navy officer uniform. When worn to a formal event you can tell the difference because the Navy wear's a bow tie, while the Coast Guard wears a regular tie.
