Nose

Same Difference:  Jacobs’ transcription of | ɫɩ́n·ɛx̣ | appears only in his slip-file dictionary in his handwriting.  In the published Milluk texts the word appears three times only as | ɫə́n·ɛ́x̣ | with the vowel Schwa [ ə ] in the first syllable, but with the vowel in the second syllable either long or short.  The difference of vowels in the first syllable in the Milluk texts versus what he has in his slip-file dictionary is what Jacobs did with the word meaning ‘night’.  We favor his transcription of | ɫɩ́n·ɛx̣ | in our table of transcriptions here for essentially the same reason that we have for favoring the transcription that we favor for the Milluk word meaning ‘night’.  The difference between what we have as a vowel in the second syllable with the word meaning ‘nose’ and what Jacobs has as a vowel in the second syllable with the word meaning ‘nose’ remains.
