Fast

Swadesh asks for ‘fat’, but what he says sounds very much like the English word ‘fast’.  Mrs. Metcalf then says “fast”, in English, but Swadesh asks again for ‘fat’.  This time, what Swadesh says sounds more like the English word ‘fat’, but Mrs. Metcalf says “eh” and then she says [ tɬæʰ ].  We can see clearly in the Milluk texts that this is a Milluk word that means ‘fast’, ‘quick’, ‘quickly’.
