Foot 1

In Jacobs’ slip-file dictionary, the Milluk word is [ qɫa ] while the Hanis word is [ qɫa· ].  The transcription [ qɫa· ] is one of the ways that the word shows up in the Milluk texts.

Lolly’s Coos Bay Milluk version of this word shows the regular sound correspondence of Coos Bay Milluk having k which corresponds to Annie Miner Peterson’s Milluk having q.  This particular word in Hanis does not follow the regular sound correspondence that Hanis shares with neighboring Coos Bay Milluk that we see with a number of other words.

Instant Phonetic Englishization:  klhah.

We are quite sure about the slip of the tongue, because later in the interview, in interview segment "Foot 2", Lolly says this word twice as [ kɫa ].
