Blue, Green

The Hanis Word and a Sound Correspondence:  The Hanis word [ k̯ʼsɪ́ʔlɪs ] would be identical to this Milluk word, except that instead of the Long L which we have in the Milluk word, there is a glottal stop followed by a plain Short L.  This is not the only example where we have this sound correspondence of Hanis [ ʔl ] corresponding to Milluk Long L [ lˑ ].  See the interview segment “Bread”.

Instant Phonetic Englishization:  k!sil_lis.

The Word that We Hear In This Interview Segment:  The Milluk word that Lolly Metcalf says in this interview segment as a translation for ‘blue’ is the same word that she says as a translation for ‘green’ in the interview segment “Yellow Try”.  In Jacobs’ slip-file dictionary, the word that we hear in this interview segment and also in that interview segment is translated as ‘blue, green’.  The Milluk word which Lolly Metcalf could not remember appears in Jacobs’ slip-file dictionary as | k̯ʼisá·wəs | ‘yellow’.
