Computer Vision

DEFINITION: The process of recognizing objects in a scene or space.

How do you know the differnce between a spoon and a fork?

When you see someone playing a game with a tennis racket, do you assume they are using a lemon or a tennis ball? Why?

When humans see something, we can associate context, shape, size, texture, smell, etc. We can recognize the full environment and use that to give contect clues about a thing that we see- we do not need 'programming', we simply SEE!

What are some problems that require vision in order to solve them?

What are some activities that require sight in order to do?

How does this compare to computers???

Computers Look For:

  • Objectives, measurements/dimensions, accuracy/consistency in data, and detail

Discuss: What are some things that we use computers to 'see'/identify?
