A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person.
Look at the portraits below- what similarities do you see? What differences do you notice?

Choose one of the photgraphy portraits ABOVE to reference when answering the questions on your Portrait Assignment in Google Classroom. We will be discussing them as a class afterwards.
We will be taking our own self-portraits today (you can also work with a partner, if you would like).
Here are some tips to help you out:
Eye contact – make sure you look in the camera lens, not at yourself
Lighting – indirect flat window light is best, move around to find it (a side note, keep in mind how catch lights look like in your eyes)
Posing – lean towards camera, shoulders back, chin extended forward and down.
Clutter – mind the busy background, simple is better, you want to stand out.
Smile – it needs to feel natural so if you like smiling big, go for it, otherwise natural beats fake every time
