This is an example of a student commercial design HERE

Assignment: To write and produce a 45-60 second commercial.
Funny Commercial Ideas (not the first one) HERE
STEPS:
Get into a group of 2-3 people- the more diversity, the better.
PART 1: Background Information: This is a serious (but can be clever) attempt to sell a product.
You are expected to apply shooting basics, knowledge of audio and of lighting to this project.
Examine how commercials use humor and fast cutting to tell as story.
Watch this 2014 Super Bowl Commercial and then this analysis.
Use what you have studied and learned about how to shoot and edit video.
You will plan you project using storyboards. Look at some professional examples here and here.
Read: Commercial1 Project Information
Be sure to follow & use the rubric (below) to understand how you'll be graded/what you must include.
PART 2: Concept Proposal (10 Points Possible)
Identify your director. Rotate into this position- each person should be the director at some point during the commercial.
Select a product you will sell. It needs to be something you can easily bring to class.
Brainstorm three different ideas.
Select a director and have the director type the information in GoogleDocs for the group.
Your concept proposal must contain the following information:
- List the first and last names of all the groups’ members at the top of the page.
- Name the product you are selling:
- Director’s Name:
- Actors’ Names:
- Write a description of the three ideas. List the one you will do at the top.
- List the Location(s) at school where you will shoot your video:
- Concept: Describe what will happen in your commercial
- Method of Advertising Used: Selected from Advertising Methods
- The director will turn it in to proper assignment link in their drive to be SHARED with me. Title the document: with the last names of the three members of the group and _Commercial.doc. Example: HitchcockLucasSpielberg_Commercial.doc If the file name is too long, shorten the length: HitchLucasSpiel_Commercial.doc
After you have completed the information below, call over your teacher and “pitch” your project for approval.
PART 3:
Write an A/V script: As a group work together to create an A/V script.
Use this template to work from- to create this in Docs, INSERT a TABLE that is 3 x 20 boxes.
See this example based on the Jelly Sandwich.
Include shot type with a description of what each actor does in the shot.
Write the dialog or sound effects that occur in the shot.
Grading Criteria for A/V Script (10 Points Possible)
- List the first and last names of all the groups’ members at the top of the page.
- All members of the group must participate in the discussion. A member who does not fully participate will not receive full points.
- Form must be filled out completely with the shot type and description of action.
- Should have 14 to 20 edits in a 60 second video.
- Name the GoogleDoc file with the three names of the group and _Commercial.doc Example: HitchLucasSpiel_Commercial.doc
- The typist submits it for all three members to the teacher for a grade.
Grading Criteria for Storyboard (10 Points Possible): Complete your storyboard and have it approved before shooting. This could take several drafts. Use the attached storyboard below.
- Submit one storyboard per group. The names of all group members are printed in the upper right hand corner of the storyboard worksheet.
- The storyboard is collaboratively drawn by all three members of the row group. Each member takes turns drawing a frame and initials it in the bottom right hand corner.
- The storyboard features long shots, medium shots, close-ups and other shot types as needed. There must be at least one close-up of the product.
- The drawings are thick figures, not stick figures, they show how much space an actor or object will fill on the screen.
- The drawings follow the rule of thirds.
- The drawings have appropriate headroom and nose room.
- Directions for matching movement – continuity/direction arrows are made in the drawings.
- The concept appears strong and will help sell the product.
- List the method(s) of advertising used in your commercial at the top of the first page.
