Smoking Cessation

Husson is a Tobacco Free/Smoke Free Campus. So if you are a smoker and plan on attending Husson, you may be thinking more and more about quitting smoking. Though there are some people who can quit "cold turkey," the reality is that the majority of the population of smokers do better and are more successful with a plan, supports, and even nicotine replacement.  

Quitting can seem difficult and impossible when you first begin to think about it and maybe even try a few times.  The reality is that quitting is difficult and people may "quit" several times before they actually quit for good.  So, where do we begin?  Below are some tips, ideas, and resources for helping you succeed in your desire to stop smoking.

1. Get ready - Start readying yourself to quit.

2. Get help - You will have a better chance of quitting successfully if you have help and support from your doctor, family, friends, and coworkers.

3. Learn new skills and behaviors - What are your smoking habits and rituals? Identifying your smoking triggers can help you avoid them and plan for ways to keep you out of risky situations. Start by:
