Gresham School Board Meeting

August 21, 2023 Meeting Minutes

Present:  Joe Ejnik, Lanell Thorne, Diana Jensen, and Ethan Schmidt. Superintendent - Newell Haffner, Principal - Jessie Hanssen, CESA 8 - Nick Curran, Lisa Hoffman and Administrative Assistant - Cathy Opperman. 

Absent:  Jim Hoffman, Pat Pleshek and Jerrit Lyons.

Meeting Called to Order: The meeting was opened at 6:05pm by President Joe Ejnik.

Pledge of Allegiance:  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present. 

Approve the Agenda:  Motion to amend the agenda to remove “New Hire/Lydia Williams'' was made by Ethan, second by Diana, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.  Motion to approve the agenda was made by Diana, second by Lanell, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.  

Public Comments:  None

Consent Agenda

Previous Meeting Minutes:  Motion to approve the August 7th meeting minutes was made by Lanell, second by Ethan, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.  

July Voucher Report:  Motion to approve the July vouchers was made by Ethan, second by Lanell, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.

Resignation:  Nathaniel Juga/MS soccer coach resigned.  No motion needed.

Financial Update by Nick Curran:  Items covered include monthly budget report, monthly fiscal recap, year end 2022-2023 projections, assigned fund balance, ESSER update, debt refinancing, roofing and playground.

Operations Report:  AC update by James Dudek.

Administrative Report by Newell Haffner: 

Back to school night is on August 22nd at 4:30-7:00 pm.

Sixth grade orientation is on August 17th at 9 am.

2023-2024 Gresham School District Safe Return to In-Person & Continuity of Services Plan:  The plan was distributed.

CESA 8 Speech and Language Teacher:  Motion to approve speech and language services thru CESA 8 was made by Lanell, second by Ethan, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.

Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement 66.0301 with Weyauwega-Fremont:  Motion to approve the 

Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement 66.0301 with Weyauwega-Fremont was made by Ethan, second by Diana, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.

Substitute Teacher Pay:  Motion to increase the daily substitute teacher rate pay to $150 was made by Lanell, second by Ethan, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.

WASB Regional Meeting October 25, 2023 at 4PM at Rock Garden, Green Bay:  A reminder to all.

Motion to Move into Closed Session:  Motion to move into closed session was made by Diana, second by Ethan, roll call vote taken, all in favor, motion carried.

Motion to Return to Open Session:  Motion to return to open session was made by Diana, second by Ethan, 

roll call vote taken, all in favor, motion carried.

Action Taken as a Result of Closed Session:  Motion to approve the supplemental contract for said teacher for $10,000 was made by Lanell, second by Diana, voice vote was 4-0 in favor, 3 absent, motion carried.
