Gresham School Board Meeting

April 5, 2021 Minutes

Present: Alphia Creapeau, Jim Hoffman, Doug Huck, Grace Schwefel, Marge Eberhard, Joe Ejnik, and Superintendent - Newell Haffner, Principal - Ben Heninger, Director of Operations - Jim Dudek.

Virtual: Administrative Assistant - Cathy Opperman, Nate Yahn, Ethan Schmidt, Angie Nelson, Dylan Hintz, Jen Schick, Jill Ejnik, Lizzy, Jamie Malueg and JN.

Absent: James Matthews and Denise Guex - Director of Finance.


Meeting Called to Order: The meeting was opened at 7:04pm by President Alphia Creapeau.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present.


Approve or Amend the Agenda: Motion to approve the agenda was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Joe Ejnik, roll call vote was unanimous, 1 absent, motion carried.


Public Comments: Ethan Schmidt voiced his concern regarding athletic tournaments and school attendance.


Stockbridge-Munsee Appreciation: A tour was given to members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Leadership Council.


Construction Update: An update was given by Nate Yahn.


Consent Agenda

Previous Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve the meeting minutes of March 15th was made by Joe Ejnik, second by Jim Hoffman, roll call vote was unanimous, 1 absent, motion carried.

March Voucher Report: Motion to approve March vouchers was made by Doug Huck, second by Joe Ejnik, roll call vote was unanimous, 1 absent, motion carried.

New Hire:

Penny Heroux/Math Interventionist: Motion to approve Penny Heroux as the Math Interventionist for the 2021-2022 school year was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Jim Hoffman, roll call vote was unanimous, 1 absent, motion carried.

Abby May/Secretary: No motion needed.

*It was noted that Katie Wild will be transferring from Special Education teacher to 4th grade teacher starting in 2021-2022 school year.


Administrative Report: Newell Haffner reviewed the following: Misson, Vision and Values.


Operations Report: James Dudek gave an update on the air conditioning and the new kitchen.


Stockbridge-Munsee Community Headstart Interagency Agreement: The agreement was signed by the required staff.


Washington D.C. Trip Update: Ben Heninger provided an update regarding the trip being rescheduled to the summer of 2022. The tour company will be communicating directly with the affected parents and students.


Policy 30.1 Update: This was given out as a first read.


Policy 30.1 - Technical Corrections: This was given out as a first read.


5460.02 Graduation Policy: This was given out as a first read.


School Plan: Newell provided an update on virtual students and possibly returning to 4.5 days a week.


Mask Policy: The district will continue to support the existing mask policy.


Grace Schwefel Retirement/Recognition: A gift was given to Grace for her years of service on the school board.


Future Agenda Items: School Plan.


Next Board Meeting Date: April 19, 2021.
