Gresham School Board Meeting
April 18, 2022 Minutes
Present: Alphia Creapeau, Marge Eberhard, Joe Ejnik, Jim Hoffman, Pat Pleshek, James Mathews, Superintendent - Newell Haffner, Principal - Ben Heninger, and CESA 8 Director of Business - Nick Curran.
Absent - Doug Huck.
Meeting Called to Order: The meeting was opened at 6:00pm by President Alphia Creapeau.
Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present.
Approve the Agenda: Motion to amend the agenda (move item 6b to Closed Session; and table items 15, 16 and 17) was made by Pat Pleshek, second by Marge Eberhard, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Public Comments: Public comments were made by Alphia Creapeau, Chris Cerveny, Ginger Brady, Marge Eberhard, Ethan Schmidt, and Jerrit Lyons.
Alternative Open Enrollment Application: None.
Consent Agenda
Previous Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve the April 4 meeting minutes was made by Jim Hoffman, second by Pat Pleshek, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Administrative Report by Newell Haffner: Newell reported on the following: Technology initiatives, Summer school update, and Graduation.
Budget Report by Nick Curran: Nick shared that Lisa Hoffman will serve as part-time Finance Manager for the District (2.5 days per week), beginning this summer. Denise will be assisting with the transition.
ESEA Findings: Newell shared the IDEA LEA Determinations for the past three (3) years. During the two most recent years, the District ‘Meets Requirements’.
School Budget Projections: Nick provided a detailed forecast of the District’s finances through the 2025-2026 school year.
ESSER II and ESSER III Budget Approval: Motion to approve the five (5) proposals (as presented by Nick Curran) was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Joe Ejnik, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Summer School: Newell shared that it has been difficult to fill teaching positions for summer school.
Backpacks for Fall/Stockbridge-Munsee Donation: Discussion took place.
Cones with Cops-May 18, 2022: This event will take place at Pa’s in Gresham.
Refusal of Board Member Salary: Newell stated that, per District policy, a board member may refuse payment of salary.
Closed Session: Motion to go into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 (1)(c) for the purpose of discussing employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employees was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Pat Pleshek, roll call vote of 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Motion to Reconvene into Open Session: Motion to reconvene in open session was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Joe Ejnik, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Motions Made as a Result of Closed Session:
Motion to waive liquidated fees for Stepheni Curran was made by Jim Hoffman, second by Marge Eberhard, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
Motion to approve all teacher contracts/letter as read was made by Marge Eberhard, second by Pat Pleshek, voice vote was 6 in favor, 1 absent, motion carried.
