Google Photos on iPad

Using Google Photos on iPad is very similar to using it on a laptop, but... not the same. Hence this guide:

Save Images to Camera Roll from a Shared Album

Create the album and copy a share link as usual, then share that link with the class, I would use a Seesaw announcement for this.

  1. When they click on the link they will see an option to 'open in app' they should do this.
  2. If asked about 'Backup & Sync' they can turn this on or off,* and then sign in.
  3. Now they can view your album, and select the photos they want to keep/use.
  4. Click the Cloud icon to add the photos to Google Photos
  5. Click on Photos on the bottom menu
  6. Select photos to download
  7. Click the action icon, and choose 'Open in'
  8. Now they can 'save images' to their camera roll.

Alternatively... (the app can be buggy)

Open up one image, ... Choose Save to Device, but you need to do one image at a time...

*teacher preference, but on will means a lot of uploading, everything in the camera roll will be uploaded to their Google Photos account

See the carousel below for these steps illustrated!

Create a collage within Google Photos

When you share an album with your class, instead of selecting and downloading, they can choose to add the images to their own Google Photos collection, and then use those photos to create a collage, or an animation, or perhaps their own album.

Select & Add to Library

The cloud icon is the one to add to their own Google Photos library, instead of downloading.

+ allows photos to be added to a collage

The Google Photos app, allows all sorts of options to use selected images for...
