Animated GIFs

Animated GIFs are a 90's phenomenon, which seem to be having a bit of a resurgence.

An animated GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is an image file that contains within the single file a set of images that are presented in a specified order. An animated GIF can loop endlessly, the coolest thing is that it loads very quickly, much quicker than video, and can do the same job video would normally do, but better.

A really easy way to do this is to use an app called Giphy Capture, and it's free from the Mac App store.


Some others include an App called LICEcap, strange name, but it's free and it's easy to use. Once you've launched it, just position the window frame anywhere you want, and start recording, it will automatically create an animated gif.

Also GifGrabber in the Mac App Store. This also allows you capture the edge of the screen as well, just use the shortcut, command+shift+s to start and stop the capture.
