Apple TV Restrictions

These are great, but what's not so great is the distracting previews that they display on the home screen by default before you connect a device. Depending on which generation of Apple TV there is a solution.

You will need the Apple TV remote to do any of this...

If you have the newer model of Apple TV (shown in the image above) you have the simplest solution; just click and hold on the settings app and drag it to the far left side of the top row. Done. Now that is the app that will be previewed when you connect to the Apple TV. No distractions...

I advise you not to sign into your own Apple account, as personal media may well be inappropriate for child viewing; including previews...

Regardless of the model of Apple TV you have, this is the ultimate in killing distractions, but you will need to create a PIN to activate it; for our purposes it would help if you use the college address so the IT department can access the settings if they need to as well: 1207

Go to Settings > Restrictions > Turn this on

• Hide Purchase and Rental Preview
• Restrict movies to U
• Restrict TV to TV-Y

Now go back to the Settings > Main Menu > change everything from show to hide.
