Flipgrid

Flipgrid has been around for a few years, but after being purchased by MicroSoft it is now FREE to use, no restrictions, and supports SSO, so we can sign in using our college Google accounts.

It's very simple but effective, the grid is formed from student responses, these responses have to be short video clips (you can set the maximum length). The Flipgrid also allows replies from the members of the grid using video as well; there is no option to reply with text.

Why bother?

You can get a class of video responses in Seesaw but that means you have to watch ALL of them (even if just to make sure nothing inappropriate is inadvertently shared), with one class sharing 1 minute responses, that's easily half an hour to viewing for you, not including viewing responses... With Flipgrid this is not necessary as it is private to just you and your class.

You can do something similar with Padlet, but... Flipgrid is simpler, easier, and quicker...

Sharing with Parents

Some enterprising teachers have already put Flipgrid to good use, here's one from Grade 4 celebrating Mother's Day!

The share link in Flipgrid will work if you are sharing it within our GApps domain, but won't work for parents. If you want to share a Flipgrid with parents you will need to edit the settings:

  1. Click the pencil icon to Edit the Grid :
  2. Change the grid type to Public and PLCs
  3. You can add password restriction if you want to, but we find the 'anyone with the link' level to be a sufficient level of security.

Edit Grid

To change who can view/contribute to the Flipgrid.

You could invite parents to reply to their child's post, as long as they have a Google or Microsoft account they can!

Public and PLCs

This will allow anyone to view, and anyone with a Google or Microsoft account to participate...
