Troubleshoot Browser Glitches

From time to time things that were working just stop, if a web tool you rely on seems to be broken, the chances are it's more likely it's a problem with the the browser on the device than the website. Here's some steps to follow before throwing the device out of the window:

RQR:

Refresh. If that doesn't work...

Quit. (command Q) If that doesn't work...

Restart the computer/device.

If that doesn't work, then check the browser:

  1. Is it up to date? (Click Chrome > About Chrome)
  2. Clear browsing data - everything except passwords (Chrome > Clear browsing data)
  3. Are you signed in properly?—it's possible to have tangled GMail accounts with conflicting permissions between their home/school email accounts - sign out all accounts, only sign in with the school account.*
  4. Remove rogue themes: Settings - Appearance - Reset to Default
  5. Test in an Incognito Window (File > New Incognito Window) to see if you have any dodgy extensions installed. If you have no problems when in Incognito mode you probably need to delete or disable some of your extensions. (Window > Extensions)

Then Quit the browser and try again.

*To use multiple accounts in Chrome, add them as separate accounts, don't sign in and out with multiple accounts.

If none of this works, then try Safari, Firefox, or Opera instead... Then contact IT Support to get Chrome fixed!
