DO NOW: Turn & Talk
Talk to the person next to you. What "theme" should the class work with this year?
Think about broad topics that allow for lots of interpretation. "Community" is a good example of a theme that can go in multiple directions. Limit yourself to one word.
POWER OF TWOS:
Once you and your partner have agreed on a theme, you will pair up with another group of two to decide on a common theme.
Then your group of four will pair with another group of four, and so on, until the whole class has agreed on a theme.
ASSIGNMENT: Introduction to expectations for the Final Script.
VOCABULARY: Protagonist vs. Antagonist
In small groups, choose a well-known story. Who are the main characters? Who drives the story forward, and what is stopping them from achieving their goals?
